3 Mindfulness Tips to Help you Stress Less at Work

As you slowly roll back in to work mode, check out these 3 mindfulness tips to help you stress less at work and create a relaxed hustle:

#1 MEDITATE

#2 BE LIKE A CHEETAH

Even the fastest animal on the planet has figured out the power of stillness! 

When hunting its prey, the cheetah first pauses, makes a game plan, and THEN goes in for the kill! At the Potential Project, we can it slowing down to speed up!

Do this by: 

  • Taking time to get clear on your objectives for the week! 
  • Plan for and schedule what you can actually get done
  • Then, schedule your priorities, don't prioritize your schedule!  

#3 TAKE BRAIN BREAKS

Fun Fact: The brain uses MORE THAN 20% of your energy during a work day. Mental exhaustion is real!

Give your brain the break it needs throughout the day for better focus, creativity, and decision-making. 

The key here is to go:

  • FROM: Thinking (i.e. conceptual activity with words)
  • TO: Experiencing (i.e. perceptual activity without words)

Why is this important? The pre-frontal cortex (which is the part of the brain responsible for rational thinking and decision making, which is probably what you're doing the most during your day), uses up the MOST energy in the brain. So you want to give it a break but activating different parts of the brain. 

Some of my favorite BRAIN BREAKS:

  • Dance to your favorite hype song to get you pumped up and re-energized
  • Spend time in nature - go out for a walk or even just stare out the window in between meetings
  • Lay a blanket and cloud gaze...sounds crazy but kids actually find this super cool!
  • Pay attention to the sensation of water on your hands as you wash them during your bathroom breaks
  • Choose mindful eating over emailing at lunch!
